We started in 1991.  I was a lawyer.  Kay a legal secretary.  We decided to give business a try and bought a small cantina on PCH.  I couldn't cook and wasn't all that good at running the things (luckily Kay was). But I did enjoy connecting with customers and learning what they like.  That turned out to be a friendly trusted place that offers good quality stuff at a really fair price.  So that became our focus and has remained our focus since.
